Itinerary:
Day 1: Phnom Penh Motorcycle Tour to Kampong Cham (Approx. 125 km)
Our journey begins in Phnom Penh, the bustling capital of Cambodia. After gathering our gear and checking our bikes, we set off through the city’s lively streets. The transition from urban chaos to serene countryside is swift and refreshing. Riding along the banks of the Mekong River, we pass through picturesque villages where children wave and farmers tend to their fields.
Our first stop is Wat Nokor, an ancient temple complex blending Angkorian and modern architecture. As the sun sets, we roll into Kampong Cham, a charming town with French colonial buildings. We explore the local market, savoring the flavors of Cambodian street food before settling in for the night.
Day 2: Kampong Cham Motorbike Tour to Kratie (Approx. 150 km)
Leaving Kampong Cham, we venture onto dirt tracks that wind through rubber plantations and dense forests. The off-road experience begins in earnest, with thrilling challenges and breathtaking scenery at every turn. Along the way, we visit Wat Hanchey, perched on a hilltop with panoramic views of the Mekong River.
Continuing our journey, we head north towards Kratie, a tranquil riverside town. In the late afternoon, we take a boat trip to Kampi to spot the endangered Irrawaddy dolphins, an unforgettable experience. As night falls, we enjoy a riverside dinner, sharing stories of the day’s adventures.
Day 3: Kratie to Mondulkiri (Approx. 190 km)
Our path leads us east into the highlands of Mondulkiri, known for its rolling hills and lush forests. The ride becomes more rugged, with challenging off-road sections that test our skills and endurance. We navigate through dense jungles, emerging occasionally to find spectacular views of the surrounding landscapes.
Arriving in Sen Monorom, Mondulkiri’s provincial capital, we visit the Bou Sra Waterfall, cascading in three spectacular tiers. The day ends with an interaction with the Bunong people, learning about their unique culture and traditions.
Day 4: Mondulkiri Exploration
Today is dedicated to exploring Mondulkiri’s natural and cultural wonders. We visit an elephant sanctuary, gaining insights into the conservation efforts that protect these majestic creatures. Riding off-road trails, we discover hidden waterfalls and scenic viewpoints that few tourists ever see.
The lush, unspoiled environment provides ample opportunities for trekking and other adventure activities. In the evening, we return to Sen Monorom, enjoying a meal made from locally sourced ingredients and reflecting on the day’s discoveries.
Day 5: Mondulkiri Off-road Tour to Kampong Thom (Approx. 240 km)
We set out westward, embarking on a long off-road journey through remote and rugged terrain. The ride is demanding but incredibly rewarding, with stunning landscapes unfolding around every bend. As we approach Kampong Thom, we visit Sambor Prei Kuk, a pre-Angkorian temple complex nestled in the forest.
The ancient ruins, covered in moss and vines, evoke a sense of mystery and history. We continue to Kampong Thom town, where we experience the local way of life and enjoy a well-deserved rest.
Day 6: Kampong Thom to Siem Reap (Approx. 150 km)
Our final leg takes us to Siem Reap, the gateway to the majestic Angkor Wat. Riding through the Cambodian countryside, we encounter a mix of dirt and paved roads, with the scenery shifting from rural fields to dense forests. Arriving in Siem Reap, we head straight to Angkor Wat, exploring the awe-inspiring temple complex with its intricate carvings and towering spires.
The day concludes with a celebration of our epic journey, enjoying the vibrant nightlife and cultural performances that Siem Reap has to offer. We settle into our accommodation, filled with memories of an unforgettable adventure across Cambodia.
